WHAT'S THE POINT?
A project still in development, inspired by personal favorite narratives like The Fifth Element, Star Wars, and other science fiction movies and literature I grew up on.

VERSION 01 & 02 - VALUE STUDY

These represent the first two renditions of my main character's home where she grew up, focusing soley on value and overall composition. Perspective is greatly intimidating to me, so to better break down the process, I paid attention to the overall shape language of the house and foliage layout. This helped me slow down and process through the drawing better. Building the house in The Sims 4 aided in getting a feel for the overall foundation, as well as watching other people's videos on similar house layouts eased the road for my hands to better draw what I saw in my mind.

VERSION 03 - COLOR PRACTICE

Not feeling confident enough yet to paint on canvas, I took to the less intimidating approach of painting in my sketchbook. If I didn't like what I did, I could easily dispose and start anew, feeling that made more room for any mistakes when developing any painting techniques. This was a successful trial, and provided visual proof to me that any previous training in perspective and value was worth it. I didn't have the luxury of tracing over an already existing building on a program, instead relying only on my understanding of the rules that have been continuously exersized with other previous projects.

VERSION 01 - ONLY THE BEGINNING

The main criteria for this ship design: quick, fast, and aerodynamic while also having enough internal room to function as a 'mobile home'. The large engines and narrow design aid in the illusion of power and speed, while the two-story functionality optomizes the internal space, making it livable. The external design needed to have as much personality as the character who owns it, so I got inspiration from my own car at the time and added some faded, sunspot coloring. Any other worn out details helped indicate a well-traveled life under a multitude of climates from planets visited in the galaxy. I looked at a variety of different modified vans, RVs, and some racecars, as well as other spaceship designs from media like Guiardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars, and The Fith Element.

INTERNAL SPACE LAYOUT - IDEA 01

This is the first ideation for the top floor of the main spaceship. While this is a decent layout, fitted with a bed at the back, a little kitchenette on the far left, a work station on the far right, and a bathroom/shower in the front left corner of the room, I'm not entirely satisfied. There are still items intended for the main character of the narrative that were not able to fit into this space, so some redesign is needed. I want the interior to have as much bold personality as the figure who inhabits it. This is a good start, and future improvements will be easier since I'll be using this as a foundation to work my way up.

CHARACTER SILHOUETTES

The vision for this graphic novel is a variety of characters with different shapes and personalities. The best way for me to not become overwhelmed by details is to create simplistic sihlouettes, to see how to better capture individuality in the overall composition vs becoming enraptured with facial features and niche costume design. I already have the core concepts for each character's purpose in the narrative, so simplifying the characters is the best way to expidite the creation process. More of these are needed to maximize the potential for each figure; these first few versions are only the beginning.

This protocol droid is who the story is centered around. I played around with different hand types, beginning with more rounded 'finger' clasps before settling on the more sharpened pincer design (shown in the expression sheet). The colors and overall design is still far from finished, but the core concept of a round body with a single, circular eye in the middle has stayed the same since my first idea of him back in 2022.

Xi, our secondary main character, was created along side our B.G droid as they were always drawn as a pair. The love interest, Eros, was created a year later for a class assignment, meant to be temporary but inevitably becoming permanent after further development of him and the narrative.

ADVENTURIST & ADRENALINE JUNKIE
Representation matters, and given my own hispanic background, I thought it important and opportunistic to create a female lead with hispanic heratige. While the entire narrative is still in the works, the core concepts for her personality have helped curate exactly what I want to happen in the plot to better showcase her desire for excitment, as well as the reasons why she is the way she is. Her outfit and personal look are still in the works, and excitingly, she's developed from the original 2022 'plain, stereotypical sci-fi' style to a more modern, 'futuristic, space cowgirl' vibe.


KILLIAN EROS
LOVE INTEREST & BODY GUARD

While his origin story has been extensivley developing in the background, Eros' core character design has been left underdeveloped. The key componants important to his personality and lore are the bodily augmentations like his mechanical arm and head modifications. More work has yet to be added to him, and its an exciting promise to look forward to in the continuous evolution of the visual narrative.

These are little snapshots of random scenes made for various class assignments while the story was in its earliest stages of development. I didn't really know what I wanted to do for the main plot, but there was a core idea of the characters being chased down by the bad guy as he hustles tirelessly to capture the 4.10 droid. Humor, action, and affection between the main cast was always at the forefront when creating these scenes, and that stays true as the spine of the story continues to develop over time.

The prime figure hunting our main characters down is a malicious bounty hunter. Initially inspired from the 'Call of Duty' franchise, his character has developed over time. What's shown above are the inital ideas, and similar to our love interest, the backstory for this character has developed while his design has yet to be updated. The central idea is a military figure who abuses his power and will go to great lengths to obtain what he desires. The apparatus on his back is important to his livelihood but also is his greatest weakness. Future developments are soon to be added and enahanced.

THE CENTRAL PLOT
IN THE WORKS...

While this story has been in development since early 2022, concrete plot points didn't begin to develop until mid-2023. Research on different topics of interest began to fuse together, and more effort to create a stable narrative finally took shape. Finding inspiration in adventuristic stories of jungles, temples, and early human tales of Gods in the heavens, the narrative continues to develop today. While the overall story has strayed from these initial ideas, it's exciting to see the progress from what it once was to what it's rapidly becoming.
