CHARACTER DESIGN

A collection of personal and licensed characters, drawn as practice to develop my own unique character style.

Deadpool
QUICK SKETCH STUDY
(2023)

LOWER RESO- Deadpool Sktch.jpg

Sketchy, quick draw of one of my favorite characters. Using a pose from pinterest, I took the time to curate a little design of Deadpool: paying special attention to the musculature proportions since I wasn't as versed in anatomy at the time. This was also during McDonald's Grimace birthday shake celebration.

While this character was originally created from playing Baldur's Gate 3, this little druid inspired a fantasy narrative about finding and accepting love again after a period of devastating loss. Several different outfit renditions were made for her, and they continue to develop as time passes. Every single feature is intentional, including but not limited to: her draping sash, clasped with the broach of her mother and always on her person in the case of an impromptu nap in the forest. Her accessories, a collection of acorns and other trinkets found while exploring the wilderness, and shoe design, protective enough from the outdoors while aerated and minimal enough to give a more 'carefree' appearance. Jaq's narrative is intended for a younger audience of children, and deals with the hard hitting message of never allowing the strong emotions of bitterness and anger from those around to turn you into something as equally hateful. Patience and empathy for yourself and others will always persevere through even the darkest of events, and you can always come out on top when moving with love.

OLLA - JAQ'S MENTOR
THE 'YODA' OF OUR FANTASY NARRATIVE
(2024)

LOWER RESO- Jaq Doodles -OLLA02jpg.jpg

The most inspirational figurehead and supporting character to Jaq's main narrative - an old dwarf druid named Olla. Influenced by 'The Lion Kings' Rafiki and 'Star Wars' Yoda, this wise, old woman is when the narrative begins to look up for Jaq after her period of devistation. I wanted her figure to be intimidating but comfortable, giving our main character the type of tough love and compassion needed for development. I was writing this story during my final quarter of college and developed the design further in a sculpting class. Taking on the challenge of curating Olla into a 3D figure was stimulating, challenging, and an overall amazing expirience. While she remainds unfinished, plans to continue her sculpt and finalize the design are in the works.

The most simplistic and iconic designs are oftentimes the hardest to recreate. Inspired to try and capture these characters likenesses in my own style during one of my rewatch binges, I experimented with different sketches and renditions until I got something I liked. I really allowed myself to have fun and not take the challenge too serious, which ended up gaving me better results.

Kim Possible was a personal favorite, and revisiting the series as an adult only intesified my love for the characters, story, humor, and overall design. During the rewatch, I spent time curating other 'what if' scenarios and a variety of spin-off plot points after the original shows end in 2007. Taking the cartoonish stylization and transforming it to better fit my own design was satisfying, as was making the characters a few years older, giving them a more 'mature' angle.

BOBS BURGERS FANART 01
(2025)

LOWER RESO- Linda Blecher.jpg

My first take on the iconic and fun mother of the Bob's Burgers series. In my eyes, her emboldened, unique personality makes her stand her out, and I took on the challenge of capturing her likeness in a style so different from the original art of the show. I would like to continue developing her character, as I want to format her body to better fit the reality of motherhood, and steer away from the 'stereotypically sculpted' physique that is tirelessly used for women throughout visual media. She and her husband are comfortable staples in the show for people to relate to, and while this version of her is still a fair rendition, I plan to tweak things a bit and see how I can make something more 'realistic', moving away from this Kardashian-so-bombastic-beverly-hills-pilates version.

TOTAL DRAMA ISLAND
CONCEPT ART CLASS ASSIGNMENT
(2024)

TDI- Character Line up.png

A core assignment for my concept art class was to take a show that already existed and create it into something else. Given it being around Halloween, I'd come up with the idea to take the cast and premise from 2007 Cartoon Network's 'Total Drama Island' and adapt it into a slasher horror parody. Working together with my peers in a small team, we curated a new plot with only a small handful of characters from the original show. I was in charge of the overall design for the assignment, taking on an Art Director role. I also focused primarily on the character lineup and did my best to capture each of the cast members' originality while exagerating their physique to better fit the new narrative. The cast features, but is not limited to: Gwen, taking on a Sidney Prescot position, being our main and final girl; Dunkin taking the role of the horror-obsessed badass that nearly makes it to the end; his love interest from the original series, Courtney, as the head 'Camp Counselor' who takes her job too seriously; Heather, a mean girl so nasty the audience cheers on her demise; and the stereotype of the camera-loving, hot, ditsy blonde that gets minced halfway through the plot. There are lots of elements to this story, and it was an exciting and stimulating project to work on with my peers.
