Tuff Larry the Tooth Fairy
cover - issue 01
(2023)

The official cover for issue 1 of our Tuff Larry childrens' comic. A valuable learning experience in understanding the painting tools of the program, and most specifically how to unify different colors together to work in an overall composition. I sought help from my peers who were much more advanced with digital coloring than me, and their input advanced the intensity of the scene greatly.

business sign

LOWER RESO- Nims Doodles Buisness SIgn.jpg

Wanting to create a sign that was flashy, unique, and simple, I took to looking at some of my favorite artistic styles from the vintage '50s & '60s pin-up eras, as well as some classic cartoons. The curvy, bold, retro-futuristic style of old animation is what captivated me to become the artist I am today, and I had fun replicating what I saw in my own style.

LOWER RESO72- Business Card Final.jpg

When designing my business cards, I focused on being colorful, engaging, and clear about what type of service I offer. I placed my figure in the center, surrounded by different versions of me to showcase a variety of expressions, while also hinting at my personality. The dialogue subtly references my main work - comics. This has also sparked conversation, which in turn cements a more long-lasting impression.

Mama Bear Painting.jpg

mama bear & her 5 cubs
(2024)

This was a christmas gift for an aunt of mine. She's had 5 sons, and I wanted to capture all their personalities in the image. I took photos of bear cubs in various positions and collaged the composition of them crowded all around the mama as my main reference. On Pinterest I also found some gauche nature scenes from other artists and replicated their rock and leaf patterns to better train my hand in simulating lush foliage.

This was my first 'official' scenic painting, and the goal was to have it look like it could be a part of a childrens' storybook.

mERMAID PAINTING
MOMS BirthDAY GIFT
(2025)

This painting took several weeks and an abundance of patience. Any area that was unsatisfactory was removed and re-done until I found little to no issue with the color and composition. My top priority was believability and depth, refusing to stay complacent with any area looking too flat or 2-dimensional. This was my third time using gouache, and it was a learning curve in not layering the paint too heavily like one would with acrylic, as some areas began to crack the pigment buildup. This resulted in sections like the waterfall needing to be scraped down and redone. As per usual, I had many Pinterest references from other painters I admire as guidance for problem areas like the water, the rocks, and the background foliage.

'THE SCUMBAG'
COMIC COVER
(2025)

Every figure on this cover is a hint of what the reader can expect to find in the plot of the book. Alcohol markers are the first layer and were slowly built up before going in with color pencils and other media. I took inspiration from other Secret Spy novel covers to create a spoof design that mirrored the humor and ridiculousness of 'The Scumbag' plot.

Speed being my main priority, I was able to complete the drawing in one day and spent the next day on touch-ups and final varnishing. All final touches were done with ink and paint media to give a more impactful and finished 'pop'.

'HEXWARE'
COMIC COVER
(2025)

Again, after reading through the story and taking notes on key plot points, I was able to quickly thumbnail a design. Beginning with a layer of alcohol markers, the depth and opacity of the pigment slowly built up before going in with color pencils and other media. I was mindful of the positive and negative space, as well where I wanted the main attention to be, by surrounding the canonically cool figure with warm, firey tones. This is also a reference to a deal she makes with a devilish entity in the story.

Self-portrait
(2024)

Final assignment for the class of 2024 before graduation. Always teetering towards a more witchy and 'spiritualistic' vibe, I wanted my figure to differ from the typical smiling face. Played around with bold, neon-like colors to help the composition pop. I also like when images have symbolism hidden throughout, so on either side of the frame are hands displaying tarot cards. The left has a tree growing from the middle of a heart, depicting a newly understood love for nature and for myself in this new era. The right holds the 9 of Cups- The Wish Card, hinting that all my personal dreams and desires are soon to come true.

Class assignment
self-portrait
(2023)

Unable, or more so unwilling, to make a simple self-portrait, I focused on curating the best interpretation of myself in one scene; energetic and expressionistic, singing along to a tune while dancing in mismatched patterned clothing. To get that animated pop I was looking for, I watched other artists animate dancing scenes and looked at whatever character dancing sheet I could find to see how others depicted body movement.

family caricature christmas gifts
(2024)

LOWER RESO- Alec & Nicole.jpg

Christmas gifts for my cousins and their families. Time was running short between starting these and the day of our merry celebration, so I needed to keep details like facial features simplistic but unique. I took more to the old-style Archies, Hannah Barbera flare used for my business banner and was able to successfully capture everyone's individuality while keeping things easy, fun and cute.

mom & me
christmas card illustration
(2023)

This small illustration was made for my mom for a Christmas card. It took me growing up to fully realize she was the true magic in making Christmas feel so special. This image shows her holding out her hand for me to lean on, symbolizing how she’s always been there to guide me and keep me safe. Her other hand hovers behind me, ready to catch in case that I stumble, all the while giving me the freedom to explore and figure life out on my own. She smiles down at me, always supporting and encouraging my energetic personality and never silencing my expression.

WATERMARKEDLOWER RESO72- Mermaid Pattern- Closeup.jpg

This illustration was created as the main background for my website homepage. Keeping with the tropical theme of my brand, "Nims Island", I experimented with several different variations until I found the design that was the most appealing and creative, wanting to add enough for the composition to be visually engaging but not overwhelming. The piece has vibrant colors and a good sense of movement that ties all illustrations displayed together. The fish depicted are Tarpon, native to the Florida Keys, where I spent a good majority of my childhood, and fish I personally find incredibly impressive.
